Teddy Starling
Teddy graduated from Saint Joseph’s University in 2017, magna cum laude, before attending Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law. Though originally from San Diego, Philadelphia has become Teddy’s home.
Prior to working at Miller Turetsky, Teddy spent three years litigating complex shareholder class and derivative actions on behalf of institutional and individual investors in suits involving corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and fiduciary duty in the Delaware Court of Chancery and other state courts. While litigating, Teddy grew to appreciate the competing interests and inter-personal dynamics unique to navigating business relationships. Following her stint as a plaintiff’s attorney, Teddy pivoted to representing variously sized businesses in their response to data privacy and cybersecurity incidents. In that practice, Teddy became an advisor, communicating directly with clients from various industries throughout the incident response process, advising on legal and business issues as they arose, often in high-stakes and time-sensitive environments. Teddy learned the value of teamwork, coordinating with third-party IT specialists and law enforcement agencies, to lead an investigation into the incident, recover and/or unencrypt client’s data, and suggest potential improvements to client’s information systems. The fast-paced nature of the work impressed upon Teddy the importance of a proactive and diligent approach to client matters.
As a first-generation college graduate and now a first-generation lawyer, Teddy is no stranger to hard work. She is passionate about making the law accessible and finding practical solutions to avoid the expense of litigation. Where litigation is unavoidable, Teddy is a tenacious advocate.
